At YPD Karenland, we are conducting the Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP) once or twice a week for local community youth. The program focuses on self-development, peacebuilding, and teamwork through interactive learning, reflections, and fun group activities.
This training provides a valuable opportunity for young people to think deeply about themselves, their emotions, and their roles in promoting peace both within their hearts and in their communities. Through guided discussions, creative activities and games, participants learn how to handle conflict positively, communicate with respect, and build stronger relationships with others.
However, the ongoing conflict in Karenland poses many challenges. Due to safety concerns, we sometimes need to pause or adjust our schedule depending on the situation. Even so, we continue to carry on whenever possible because we believe that peace begins within each person and grows outward.
The program also helps children and youth develop important social and emotional skills as they meet new friends, share experiences, and learn to understand one another’s struggles. Listening to each other’s stories opens hearts and minds, helping young people build empathy and mutual respect.
At YPD Karenland, we believe that when people come together, share their experiences, and learn from one another, they plant the seeds of peace. One step, one story, and one heart at a time can create a more peaceful and sustainable world.
